Zero Waste Pattern-Making Workshop

I delivered this presentation in person before transitioning online during the COVID lockdown. The video recordings were intended to be posted as a resource they could refer to in the future. This demo was followed by hands-on experiential pattern-making on half-scale dress forms.

This workshop included:

  1. Basic zero waste concepts and historical background

  2. A personal method I discovered for zero waste pattern making using the architecture software SketchUp to track, record and help drape zero waste designs.

3D Printing on Fabric

This workshop was completed live during a zoom studio session shortly after we had transitioned to an online semester. These videos were intended to serve as reference for the students outside of our zoom demo.

This workshop included:

  1. Making a motif pattern in Adobe Illustrator

  2. Importing the SVG file from Illustrator to Maya to create a 3d initial form which can then be printed directly onto fabric. The sample that I was able to share with them before transitioning online was printed on Tulle.

Screen Printing on Fabric

The demo list was planned in the beginning of the fall semester based on student’s feedback. Unfortunately, this demo requires students to use the lab. Although they could not utilize this content, it was still filmed to serve as a reference for them to use in the future.
